Victory At Last!

Well, it seems that the Avs finally pulled up their socks and got a win.
Their 1-0 victory against the Predators snapped a five game losing streak, and gave Peter Budaj his first (and probably his only) shutout of the year.
It also seems like someone in the Av’s coaching staff finally opened their eyes, as Tyler Arnason was finally scratched in place of TJ Hensick, who got his second point in his second game since being called up from Lake Erie.
Darcy Tucker scored his second goal in two games, while Hensick earned his second assist in two games. It’s safe to say that Tucker and Hensick have some chemistry (at least temporarily). Tucker’s goal was also a career milestone; his 200th NHL goal.
Some bad news as Joe Sakic played in the first period but left as his back injury was still bothering him. No news on what is wrong, he’s just listed as day-to-day.
Too bad it doesn’t get easier after this win, as the Avs head into Vancouver to face Roberto Luongo and his three game shutout streak…
Five Games, Zero Points

So, I can proudly say that I called this game.
The Avs fell again last night, for the fifth time in a row, 3-1 to the Wild.
It wasn’t a half bad game, and the Avs got a notable amount of quality chances (6 powerplays), but Niklas Backstrom stole the game long before it started.
Joe Sakic missed the game with a back injury, and TJ Hensick was used in his place. It didn’t take long for the leading scorer on the Monsters to get a point, earning a brilliant assist on the Avs’ only goal.
I kind of wish Budaj would either all of a sudden become the best goalie ever, or get injured.
I also wish that they snap this losing streak against the Predators on Saturday.
Breaking Even

Well, I played my fifth game of the season last night (out of thirty-six, by the way), which resulted in a 2-1 win for my team.
No points for me, but I was +1 (+2, but I also got a minus), and so along with my team’s record (2-2-1), my plus-minus heads back to even.
It was rather unlucky that I didn’t get any points, as I missed a few quality chances. But hey, I’m typically unlucky, so it’s something I’ve come to live with, I guess.
I get a week off before my next game, maybe I’ll pick up some luck during that time.

Alright, so I’m jumping the gun a little bit, and being a little pessimistic. But with yesterday night’s loss against the Blackhawks, I honestly don’t know what to think about the Avs.
I can’t even give an accurate reason why they lost the game, because I stopped watching at 3-2, and had been away from the TV on all the Chicago goals.
One positive thing about last night has to be the line changes, especially Svatos-Stastny-Wolski. Not only does it give Sakic good wingers, but it will surely help Wolski and Svatos step up. But they’d better do it quick before they get changed around again.
Either way, I expect the Avs keep losing until they can step their game up and either call up a goalie from the AHL, or make a move to get one. Raycroft and Budaj cannot lead a team to victory, and they’ve demonstrated that several times this season already (although Raycroft only had one bad game).
I cringe at the thought of what’s going to happen against the Wild on Thursday…
And It Continues…

Here’s to another 3 game losing streak.
Although, tonight’s loss against the Sharks was fairly expected, seeing as they’re the hottest team in the West. Not a bad effort by the Avs, who made up for only scoring twice in the last two contests by at getting three goals and getting 36 shots off.
I was personally impressed by the play of Scott Hannan, who got some life from playing his former team. He had quite a few rushes and nice plays, which is good to see.
Jordan Leopold netted his third goal of the season, which is another impressive thing, and hopefully his play will continue throughout the season.
This was one game that the Avs couldn’t have won no matter what they did, unless they had a real goalie in net. Leave it to San Jose to make Budaj look like a flopping fish out of water.
At least if we can continue this trend of 3 losses, then 5 wins, we’d be on course for a 50-32 season, which gets us 100 points, and a spot in the playoffs. And if it continues in the playoffs, well damn, we’d win the Stanley Cup. Good thing we don’t have to wait long until the next game.

I just came back from my foruth game of the season, and we suffered a rather disappointing 2-1 loss. It was 1-1 the majority of the game, with back-to-back goals in the first period.
Now, let me tell you that our game started 15 minutes late thanks to the arena staff being so unorganized. And let me tell you that there was 3:41 left on the clock in the third period when the other team scored, and the refs called the game. A really sour deal, especially for me, since I went -2 that game.
My cold streak has to come to an end eventually, and hopefully Tuesday will be my day.

With tonight’s 4-2 loss to the Blue Jackets, the Avs head back to .500 with a 5-5-0 record.
This is the second time in their 10 games played that they hit .500, first erasing a 0-3-0 record and now erasing a 5-3-0 record.
Things don’t look too well for the Avs as they play the hottest teams in the West, the Sharks and Wild, this week, with a meeting with the Blackhawks in between.
Peter Budaj, who came in to replace Raycroft (who let in 4 goals on 14 shots), did not allow a goal, so there’s hope that Budaj has finally gained some consistency and is on a hot streak.
Hopefully he will perform on Sunday to prevent the Avs from falling into another losing record.
